Last Week Tonight with John Oliver

Our team was thrilled to create molten-hot VFX for our friends at Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. In a parodic take on Thomas and Friends, narrated by the ever-hilarious Matt Berry, the LWT team recreated the land of trains with a twist—a commentary on the danger of trains and the disregulation of standards in the train industry.

With our knowledge and expertise in taking stop motion to the next level, the LWT folks came to us to assist them in elevating their practical effects through compositing. We enhanced their real-life smoke and flames, turning them into massive explosions and mushroom clouds, accompanied by a full fireworks display. Additionally, we expanded upon their scenes with set extensions—multiplying trains and adding set elements such as power lines. Our team also created an overhead mapped-out version of the land of Sodor—delicately adorned with all the different locations of the land… which we also blew up.
